Questions specific to the NicaLiving.com web site

Site
I'm new to NicaLiving Checklist

All so many people come here asking very generic questions, many that have been answered before. Some get offended with generic answers or suggestions that they do their homework. So, before you ask that question...

  1. Do a quick site search. The answer might already be here.
  2. Sometimes it makes sense to add a comment to an existing post, clarifying or requesting more info. This way, we know you read the first answer and we don't repeat ourselves.
  3. When asking a question, be as specific as possible and post in an appropriate forum.
  4. When posting for the first time, introduce yourself. This is best done with a personal blog entry and also filling out some of your profile (My account). Knowing a little more about you might get you a more precise answer. Here are some suggestions:

    • Where you live
    • Why you are interested in Nicaragua
    • How old you are
    • How much Spanish you know
    • Places you have lived (as in countries)
    • How much time you have spent in Nicragua, where and when
    • If you interests are business-related, talk about your business expertise.

Armed with that information, you are likely to get some very useful information (and less smart-ass replies). For those that feel their privacy will be violated, remember that all you have to do is sign up for a free email account (yahoo, for example), tell us your name is John or Jane Doe, ... Generally, we don't care who you really are but without an idea of what you are like and what you are interested in, don't expect good answers.

Site Problems?

If you are having a problem with this site, a good first step is to take a look in the forum about the site at http://www.nicaliving.com/forum/4 to see if it is already reported. If you find an answer there, great. If not, create a new forum entry with your report.

Using this forum to report bugs, ideas and enhancement requests for the site keeps all this stuff together and, more important, separate from the actual Nicaragua-related content.

If all else fails, e-mail me at mailto:nl@monosmedia.com and I will try to sort out the problem.

Logins

Anyone can create a login. It is needed to contribute to the site.

To create a login, click on the Create New Account link. Fill in the requested information and click on the Create button. Your login information will be sent to you in an e-mail. Note that only fields marked with a red asterisk are required.

Once you have your initial password you can log in, change your password and modify your profile (My account). There is nothing new required here--it is just a chance to further describe yourself if you so wish. Remember, login names and passwords are case-sensitive. JohnDoe, Johndoe and jondoe are three distinct names.

If you forget your password, click on the Request new password link. You can fill in either your user name or email address. Your password will be emailed to you.

Why this site?

There are so many web sites about everything these days. How is this site different?

The sites I have found about Nicaragua can be grouped into these categories:

  • Travel information sites
  • Government sites (mostly only available in Spanish)
  • Organization sites dealing with what that organization does

What was missing was a site that specifically addressed the needs of someone wanting to move to Nicaragua and needing information and for the person who had moved there and wanted to get themselves integrated into local society.
