Is there a cheap way to get there from Nicaragua? Is there a boat from the Altantic Coast? I am not in a hurry.

Buses are not an economical option--Mexican buses are no longer subsidized by the government as in the past, plus express buses in CA are a bargain if you have to go by bus but are not cheap. I paid about 70 bucks last year just to go one way from Esteli to Guatemala.

Also, you and your belongings are subject to much less hassle if you come by air,

If you find a boat out of Miami or somewhere, that leaves you on the NIc. Atlantic coast. The flight to Managua will set you back an additional 80 bucks or so, altho you can get from Bluefields to MGA by river boat and bus.
