I haven't seen kale here, but at least the Russian kale would be possible to grow here (takes both cold and heat well from when I grew it in Philadelphia).
Parsley is available most markets here, and makes a nice cooked addition to soups and stews, very much as I used kale.
Cabbage is kale with a selection for heading, same species. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brassica_oleracea Broccoli is another B oleracea plant and you can use the leaves from it as a cooking green or fresh green. It's available here from street vendors (I think their family farms are growing it).
"One of the main problems with democracy is that people who don't know what they're talking about still have opinions — very strong opinions. And they vote on them."
