Hotel El Puerto

If you're looking for a pleasant, clean and secure hotel in SJDS this is a good bet...2 blocks off the beach...1 block to El Gato Negro...$18usd per night...recommended by Noushie...i'll stay there again!

Same prices, same truck outside

Nice people, nice place.

i agree

very good recomendation.....i stayed there couple of times and will do it again

nice to hear

"El Gato Negro" has become an official landmark for addresses.

they were doing...

a brisk business when i was there...it was a regular stop for me on the way back from the beach in the AM.

Had some really tasty treats there...really like the granola, fruit & yogurt mix for breakfast...know there's a name for it, but can't remember.

Kelly Ann and Rob will be happy about that ; )

I am sure the directions will last

...even when the "Barnes and Noble" moves in and they are forced to close.

let's just hope

Barmy and Ignoble stay out of San Juan Del Sur so that el Gato may prosper ; )

Don't think this will be ....

a problem...looked like they were making most of their revenue on food...i liked the way they they put the freshly baked brownies out on the front bar to cool...yum, yum!

While I was there they made an announcement that they were going to be open 7 days a week...don't think B&N will have a chance in SJDS!!!

B&N and all the chain bookstores

seem to be either converting to ebooks (B&N has its own ebook reader which can't be sold here; a European book store chain is also selling its own reader) or are having serious trouble (Borders).

I'm so assimilated to the Kindle now that I look for pieces of paper to stick in "the book" before I remember that I'm reading an electronic thingie.

The price for that hotel seems reasonable enough -- perhaps some day, I may see what San Juan del Sur is like.

seven days a week . . .

seven days a week . . . I hope they don't burn out.

That's nice of you...

to think about that, but i think they have it covered....they have a large and effective staff in place...while there, did not see Kelly Ann.

Side note...my brother gave me an article from the Washington Post on Nicaragua travel and they gave El Gato Negro a favorable mention...small world!
